Do you have an interest in learning how to hunt upland birds, and more specifically pheasants? Pheasant hunting is an excellent way to introduce new hunters to hunting.
For this workshop, ODFW partners with volunteer dog handlers to provide you an exciting opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for hunting pheasants. You’ll learn about clothing/equipment needs, safety, bird biology, ethics and how to field dress (clean the animal).
Because you will be using shotguns during this workshop, we require participants have taken an ODFW Shotgun Skills Course prior to attending. If you have not already taken one of these courses, there are opportunities to do so this summer. Registration for these Shotgun Skills Clinics are now open, but space will be limited so sign up soon. If you have taken one previously, but would like to refresh your skills or get extra practice in order to feel confident, please sign up. You are responsible for being able to handle and operate shotguns in a safe and efficient manner during the pheasant hunting workshop, whether bringing your own, or borrowing one of ours.
Upcoming Required Shotgun Clinics (choose one and pre-register):
7/20/2019 Portland @ Portland Gun Club
7/28/2019 Monmouth @ EE Wilson Wildlife Area
8/10/2019 Gervais @ Mid Valley Clays and Shooting School
8/18/2019 Monmouth @ EE Wilson Wildlife Area
Please note that a Wildlife Area parking permit is required to park at ODFW Wildlife Areas. Parking permits are free with the purchase of any hunting license. Regardless, please make sure to have the parking permit with you when you get to the Wildlife Area as they are not sold on site.
You will need a valid Oregon hunting license to participate as well as an Upland Bird Validation.
Please be on the lookout for a confirmation letter with additional information on what to bring for the workshop. This will be sent out approximately 5-8 days prior to the workshop and will be sent via e-mail, so check your junk mail if you don’t see one.
This workshop is for 1st time participants only. If you have attended this workshop before, you may be interested in one of our other workshops, but won’t be allowed to attend our pheasant hunting workshop. All participants must be 18 years or older.
