How do I pay for a duplicate hunter education card?

Credit Card: Fax or mail a completed Duplicate Hunter Education Request Form to the fax number or address above, or submit a completed, signed form in person at any ODFW office that sells licenses.  DO NOT email request forms, since they contain credit card information. Once a request has been received, it will take approximately three weeks for you to receive a duplicate card in the mail. If a record cannot be found, a payment will not be processed and your credit card will not be charged. Notification will be sent if a record cannot be found.

Cash, check, or money order: If you choose to request a duplicate card with cash, check, or money order complete a Request Form and send payment to: ODFW, ATTN: Hunter Education Duplicate, 4034 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE, Salem, OR 97302, or submit in person at any ODFW office that sells licenses. *For walk-in requests, we cannot guarantee that staff will be available to process the request immediately. Be prepared to leave a completed Request Form and to receive a follow-up call by ODFW staff once the record has been located. Payment will be processed at the time the record is found. If payment is sent in the mail and a record cannot be found, a refund may take up to 10 weeks.

What information will I need to provide?

You will need to provide your full name at the time you took the course, date of birth, contact information and current mailing address. Old records can be challenging to find, so the more information that you can provide on the course that you took, such as city and the name of your instructor, the better.

How long will it take to receive my duplicate card?

You can normally expect to receive your duplicate card within three weeks of submitting your request. However, some records are more difficult to track down and may take longer to find.

What happens if ODFW is unable to find my hunter education records?

If we cannot find your hunter safety education record, you must re-take the course to receive a new hunter safety education certificate number and a card will automatically be ordered.

ODFW approved online course *(youth 17 and under will also need to complete a required in-person field day). Upon completion of the course, a valid paper certificate (pdf) will be available to print and present for an out-of-state hunt. Login to your VEM account

I’m taking my child hunting this weekend and can't find their hunter education card. What can I do?

Please request a duplicate hunter safety education card prior to the hunt. Youth are required to have a valid Hunter Safety Education card in possession (orange temporary or permanent card).

We make every effort to assist Oregon’s young hunters prepare for their hunts, but staffing levels often preclude us from being able to expedite duplicate card requests. Please plan accordingly and request your child’s duplicate hunter safety education card at least one month prior to their hunt.

I’m leaving for an out-of-state hunt tomorrow and can’t find my hunter safety education card. What can I do?

Most states require all hunters to carry proof of hunter safety education certification, not just youth hunters as in Oregon. We make every effort to assist Oregon hunters heading out of state, but staffing levels often preclude us from being able to expedite duplicate card requests. Please plan accordingly and request your duplicate hunter safety education card at least one month prior to leaving for your hunt.

To expedite, please consider re-taking the course to receive a new hunter safety education certificate number and a card will automatically be ordered.
