Jackson Cooperative Travel Management Area – Green Dot road travel permitted with public use fire restrictions reduced to Moderate, some walk-in access allowed

Central Point, Ore. – With the lifting of some fire restrictions in Southern Oregon, some private lands within the Jackson Cooperative Travel Management Area (JACTMA) have reopened to walk-in only.

And within the boundaries of the JACTMA, roads designated as Green Dot roads are currently open for travel to public lands.

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) decreased fire danger to moderate, effective at 10 a.m. on September 3, 2026 but held Industrial Fire Precaution Levels at 2. On Monday September 28, 2026 at 12:01 am ODF decreased the IFPL to level 1 and kept public use restrictions at Moderate.

Here's what hunters need to know:

• On non-Green Dot roads, hunters must adhere to road closure signs and not park or travel on closed roads. These signs say, "Closed to motor vehicles beyond this point from Oct 15-April 30 or during fire season", "Closed Road", or "No Motor Vehicles Beyond this point". These roads have flammable vegetation that could touch mufflers and exhaust pipes, still posing a wildfire risk.

• Lands managed by BTG Pactual, Lone Rock Resources (Juniper Properties), and Manulife Investment Management Forest Management LLC (and Hancock) within the JACTMA are re-opened to walk-in only access and traveling through these properties via the Green Dot road system as long as conditions remain at moderate or below. If public use restrictions return to high or extreme, or IFPL bumps back up to IFPL 2, these lands will again close. Note that other lands managed by these companies outside of the JACTMAremain closed until fire risk is further reduced.

• Lands managed by Silver Butte Timber Company within JACTMA, remain closed to walk-in access during fire season, but travel through their properties on Green Dot roads is allowed.

• No fires, camping, or offroad driving are prohibited at any time of the year on private lands within the JACTMA. Open fires are still prohibited on public lands as well.

• Hunters can check access status of other industrial timberlands outside of the JACTMA in southern Oregon by visiting the Oregon Forest Industry Council's private forestland closures website.

Hunters should continue to use caution. Fire danger is still present in Jackson County and elevated in other parts of the state; conditions can change quickly. Check local fire restrictions and current fire danger levels before heading out, and review ODFW's guidance on hunting during fire season. Hunters are also reminded to carry firefighting equipment, including a shovel and at least one gallon of water or a 2.5-pound fire extinguisher. Hunters are responsible for knowing and following fire restrictions when outdoors.
