North Nehalem Hatchery Visitors' Guide
The North Nehalem Fish Hatchery was originally constructed in 1966. The hatchery replaced the Foley Creek Hatchery which was constructed in 1926. The facility is used for adult collection, spawning, egg incubation and rearing of fall Chinook, coho, winter steelhead and rainbow trout.
Best time to visit: late September – January
Visiting hours: dawn until dusk; 7 days a week
Fish raised: Coho and fall Chinook salmon, steelhead and rainbow trout
What to see and do:
- Spawning activity and adult fish viewing are available October - February.
- Access to a fishing platform for steelhead and salmon angling is available for those with a Wheelchair License, Blind Angler's License, Disabled Veteran Angling License, or Oregon Disabilities Hunting & Fishing Permit.
- Umbrella Falls can be viewed from the hatchery property after taking a 1/8 mile hike down a wooded trail.
- Fishing for the following species is available during authorized seasons when fish are present from the hatchery property: winter steelhead, coho salmon, fall Chinook salmon, and cutthroat trout.

Directions:
From Hwy. 26: Take Hwy. 53. The hatchery is located at milepost 8.
From Hwy 101: Take Hwy 53. Proceed 11 miles to the hatchery.
