Many species of shorebirds and some waterfowl are only likely to be sighted for a few short weeks in the spring and fall as they travel between winter and summer locations. Different species of shorebirds will use rocky and sandy ocean shorelines, upper and lower estuaries, fields and riverbanks/gravel bars as they move through the area. ROSEBURG, Ore. – The salmon bag limit in the Coos Basin increases today, Aug. 19 from two to three fish in aggregate, one of which must be a hatchery salmon.
Anglers can harvest wild Chinook, hatchery Chinook, and hatchery coho. Wild coho cannot be retained until Sept. 13, when only one wild coho will be allowed per day (up to three per season). The limit increase applies to areas currently open to salmon fishing in the Coos Basin.
With Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists expecting good returns of fall Chinook hatchery fish, anglers now can take home another salmon. The increase applies through the season which ends Dec. 31; all other permanent rules apply.

Central Fishing Aug 21, 2025 Best bets for weekend fishing Steelhead fishing on the lower Deschutes has been great so far this summer Following recent stockings anglers report good fishing on the Fall River. Anglers continue to report excellent kokanee and trout fishing at East, Paulina, and Odell lakes. Kokanee are beginning to darken in preparation for spawning, but quality fish can be caught for the next week or two. August is the month for the Metolius. NW Fishing Aug 21, 2025 Best bets for weekend fishing August 1 st officially started Fall Chinook Season on the Tillamook, Nestucca, and Necanicum basins. It is still early, fishing has been very slow, and there won't be many Fall Chinook until mid-September. All of these basins have reduced bag limits for wild fall Chinook this season so check the regulation updates online before heading out. Summer steelhead fishing has been fair on the Nestucca River. NE Fishing Aug 21, 2025 Best bets for weekend fishing Trout fishing on the Wallowa River can be good throughout the summer. Large kokanee > 16 inches have been caught in Wallowa Lake this year. Flyfishing the meadow areas of the Wood River and other tributaries can be good with grasshopper patterns even though the hatch this year is sparse. Rogue Unit general archery hunters: portion of unit closed on opening weekend

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – The Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest is temporarily closing the Huckleberry Mountain area in the High Cascades Ranger District Aug. 22-31 for Tribal ceremonial purposes. Rogue Unit general archery hunters should be aware of the closure over the archery opening weekend, Aug. 30-31.

The general Western Oregon archery hunts for both deer and elk begin Aug. 30 and run through Sept. 28. For archers who planned to hunt the Huckleberry Mountain area on opening weekend, ODFW biologists suggest trying any areas around the following locations:
- Red Blanket Mountain
- Varmint Creek
- Portions of Mill Creek below the closure
- Bybee Creek
- Middle Fork of the Rogue
