Ocean surfperch Level 1 Workshop for Beginners - Warrenton
Have you ever wanted to try fishing on the beach for surfperch but weren't sure how? Ocean conditions are looking ideal this weekend!
ODFW partners with volunteer instructors from the Oregon Surf Perch Facebook group to give you the knowledge and skills to fish in the surf including:
• Introduction and fundamentals
• Skills for use of gear and tools
• Oregon fishing regulations - license requirements - resources
• How to read the waves and water safety
• Proper catch-and-release, landing, and harvesting methods
Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM - please be prompt to start on time. *Please be aware that we may have to cancel the event if ocean conditions become unsafe. Email updates will be sent to all participants.
Pre-requisite:
All participants must have a current Oregon Angling License.
*Anglers aged 17 years and younger are eligible to participate when accompanied by an adult 21 years or older.
Workshop participation includes instruction and the use of ODFW equipment and program materials. Oregon residents admitted to the Oregon Surfperch Facebook group, which will post multiple fishing opportunities throughout the year along the Oregon coast and provide mentorship throughout your surfperch fishing journey.

What to Bring:
- A valid Oregon Sport Fishing License
- Lunch, snacks, drinks, and a chair
- Waders (hip or chest-high)
- Appropriate clothing for potential rain, sun, and wind
- Bring extra clothing, especially socks, in case you get wet!
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
- NOT required: Your own rod, reel, bait, and terminal tackle (we have all the gear you need but you're welcome to bring your own if you have it!)
