Steelhead 101 and Broodstock Collection - Troy, OR

*Please note: registration for this workshop is open for new participants of a Troy Steelhead 101 Workshop only; more details provided below.*
Every year, ODFW needs anglers to assist us in collecting fish for our Grande Ronde River broodstock program. This program is part of our greater efforts to enhance the returns of anadromous fisheries in Oregon by rearing and releasing fish spawned by angler-caught salmon and steelhead.
During our annual broodstock collection event in Troy, we're partnering with the Association of Northwest Steelheaders (ANWS) to teach a how-to-fish class within the broodstock event to give you all the knowledge you need to fish for steelhead! If you've ever wanted to try steelhead fishing but weren't sure how, or you're interested in learning how to fish for steelhead on the Grande Ronde River, this is the opportunity for you!
Your workshop fee includes: instruction, use of ODFW equipment and program materials, and a one-year membership to ANWS. We have all the equipment you need, but if you have your own fishing equipment, you are welcome to bring it and we can show you how to use it. Everyone is encouraged to donate the fish they catch to our broodstock program, but if you catch a legal fish and want to keep it, that's okay too.
This is a two-day workshop! Check-in is at 4:00 PM on Friday the 18th. On Friday, we will introduce steelhead fishing on the Grande Ronde River and discuss tips and techniques in which to be successful on this waterway. On Saturday the 19th, you'll be paired up with certified instructors to go explore the Grande Ronde and test your skills on its productive steelhead fishery.
Dinner will be provided on both Friday and Saturday, but please bring your own snacks and water. A detailed email of the plan of the day and further instructions will be provided after registration.
Anglers aged 17 years and younger are eligible to participate while accompanied by a registered adult 21 years or older.

If you would like to participate in broodstock collection efforts, but are not interested in signing up for this workshop, you can still come out and fish! YOU MUST complete Broodstock Collection Survey to let us know which days you plan to participate in the broodstock collection event.

PLEASE NOTE:
*Registration for this workshop is open for new participants only. If you have previously registered and participated in a Troy Steelhead 101 workshop you are not eligible to register for this workshop. This is simply due to limited space, available gear, and an opportunity for new anglers to learn. This is NOT intended to prohibit anyone's participation in the Troy broodstock event, which is available to everyone; ONLY registration to the learn-to-fish workshop is limited to new attendees. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, please contact coordinator if you have any questions.
This event will occur in a very remote location. THERE IS NO CELL RECEPTION IN THIS AREA and most businesses only take cash!
Lodging may be found in cities nearby, but dry camping is recommended. Campsites are available at this workshop/broodstock collection location (the Google Maps location just east of Troy), at Grizz Flats Campground, and at various sites along the river. Please ensure you have accommodations or are willing to camp when you register for this event. Restrooms and showers are available in town.
