Volunteer and Event Management System

A new way to connect with ODFW
July 9, 2024

The new Volunteer Event Management (VEM) System will make it easier for you to join ODFW in the great outdoors while volunteering on a project or participating in a workshop or event. ‌

Simplifying the volunteer process‌

ODFW offers diverse indoor and outdoor volunteer opportunities focused on education and the protection of Oregon's fish, wildlife and their habitats.‌

Whether you'd like to volunteer to track turtles, restore wetlands or teach a class, the new VEM system will make it easier to find and register for the perfect volunteer opportunity. In addition, you can now track your application status, register for volunteer events and log service hours in a single online location. ‌

Streamlining workshop and event management‌

ODFW's workshop, classes and other events can introduce you to a whole new way of enjoying the outdoors through hunting, fishing and similar activities.‌

The VEM system will make it easier for ODFW to manage and promote these events, and easier for you to learn about them.‌

Once registered you'll be able to print event details and check in online. The new system also will make it easier to receive email reminders and event updates.‌

Finally, the VEM system includes a simpler way to process and get Hunter and Bowhunter Certificates. ‌

VEM rollout timeline‌

The VEM system will be phased in over 2024:‌

  • June 24: The VEM system is already integrated with ODFW's online hunter and bowhunter education partners, ensuring a seamless transition for participants in these programs. Learn more.
  • Tuesday, July 9: The VEM platform will open for volunteer registration and onboarding for select opportunities. Over the course of the year, most volunteer registrations and onboarding processes will transition to VEM.
  • Fall 2024: ODFW workshops and events, which are currently managed through the ODFW licensing system (ELS), will begin to transition to VEM for registration and sales.

We're taking this phased approach to ensure a smooth transition, and to allow ODFW staff and members of the public time to learn the new system. ‌

Supporting ODFW's mission‌

By making it easier to participate in ODFW programs – as a volunteer, workshop participant, or both – the VEM system will make it easier for you to support ODFW's mission to protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for the enjoyment of present and future generations.‌
