The following regulations reflect changes or additions to the permanent regulations listed in the 2026 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. All other permanent regulations remain in effect. Please see e-regulations.

Effective January 12, 2026:

  • Coquille River (mainstem), Coquille River Middle Fork, Coquille River North Fork, and Coquille River South Fork to USFS boundary near Powers: use of bait allowed year round.

Effective February 1, 2026:

  • Mainstem Umpqua River: Retention of all wild Chinook is prohibited.
  • North Umpqua River: Harvest of wild Chinook is restricted to one wild adult Chinook per day and ten wild adults per season from February 1 through June 30, 2026.

‌‌‌‌First spring Chinook season in the Lower Deschutes River to open since 2018!

  • Area & Dates: From the mouth at the I-84 Bridge upstream to Sherars Falls from May 5 through May 20, 2026.
  • Bag Limit: One (1) hatchery Chinook salmon per day and five (5) hatchery jack Chinook salmon per day.
  • ALL WILD (NON-ADIPOSE FIN CLIPPED) CHINOOK SALMON MUST BE RELEASED UNHARMED.
  • It is unlawful to continue to angle from Sherars Falls downstream to the upper railroad trestle (three miles) after taking a daily bag limit of one (1) adult Chinook salmon.

All other permanent rules apply as found in the 2026 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations.

Regulation updates as of 4/22/2026

The following regulations reflect changes or additions to the permanent regulations listed in the 2026 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. All other permanent regulations remain in effect. Please see e-regulations.

Salmon, steelhead, and shad

Bonneville Dam upstream to the Oregon/Washington state line (upstream of McNary Dam)

  • Effective Wednesday, April 1 – Sunday, April 26 and Saturday, May 2: the following area, retention, and daily bag limit regulations apply:
    • Area definition: Tower Island power lines (approximately six miles downstream of The Dalles Dam) upstream to Oregon/Washington border, plus only the Oregon and Washington banks from Bonneville Dam upstream to the Tower Island power lines.
    • Retention allowed: open for hatchery Chinook and hatchery steelhead.
    • Daily adult bag limit: two adult hatchery salmonids (Chinook or steelhead) per day, but only one may be a Chinook.
    • All other permanent regulations apply.

Select Areas

  • Effective March 1 – June 15:
    • On days when the mainstem Columbia River recreational fishery downstream of Bonneville Dam is open to retention of Chinook, the daily bag limit for salmon and steelhead in Oregon and Washington Select Areas will be the same as mainstem Columbia River bag limits.
    • On days when the mainstem Columbia River recreational fishery downstream of Bonneville Dam is closed to Chinook retention, the permanent salmonid bag limit regulations for Select Areas apply.

Sturgeon

See 2026 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for sanctuary closure areas. All other permanent rules apply. Please see e-regulations‌.

Columbia River Mainstem and Reservoirs, Buoy 10 to McNary Dam‌

  • The retention of sturgeon is closed. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed.

What Can I Keep and How Many?

Reminders

Yelloweye and quillback rockfish are prohibited at all times and in all waters.

Every vessel fishing for or possessing bottomfish, Pacific halibut, or flatfish in the ocean must have a functional descending device on board, regardless of depth. The device must be used to release any rockfish outside of 30 fathoms.
