Umatilla River fall Chinook angling closes Sept. 22 below Threemile Dam

PENDLETON, Ore. – Fall Chinook fishing will be closed from the Hwy 730 bridge upstream to Threemile Dam in the Umatilla River from Sept. 22 through Nov. 30, 2026.

The closure reflects forecasts of a low return of fall Chinook and is intended to help fishery managers meet broodstock goals for hatchery fall Chinook.

Fall Chinook retention will remain open above the dam from Threemile Dam to the CTUIR Reservation, approximately 0.7 mile above Hwy 11 bridge.

Forecasts are based on the total returns to the mouth of the Umatilla. Fishery managers used pre-season forecasting to predict a return of 1,458 adult fall Chinook back to the Umatilla River, however in-season forecasting has downgraded the forecast.
