All about smelt

Eulachon smelt are a small but culturally and ecologically significant fish found in the Pacific Northwest. Listed for protection under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 2010, the southern Distinct Population Segment of eulachon (which includes Columbia River eulachon) was classified as federally threatened due to a decline in abundance. Willamette Fishing August 20, 2026 Best bets for weekend fishing: Detroit Reservoir reports indicate an uptick in kokanee activity in recent weeks. Fern Ridge Reservoir fishing can still be good late in the evening or early in the morning. Look for crappie along the weedy edges on the south side of the reservoir. Two-rod validation has been extended through Dec. 31 upstream of Willamette Falls. Try warmwater fishing for smallmouth bass and yellow perch near underwater structures and drop-offs in Foster Reservoir. Trout stocking Drought conditions are impacting Oregon waterways.
